Dessert

I LOVE DESSERT! Seriously I have the biggest sweet tooth ever. Once I ate 7 cupcakes in one day, that same week I ate a grand total of 15 cupcakes. That's ignoring any cookies and candy I might have had inbetween my cupcakes. My favorite cupcake ever was made by my friend Alice, it was german chocolate, with that delish coconut icing. Besides cupcakes I'm a huge fan of ice cream. If I had to choose on type of food to eat for the rest of my life it'd be ice cream. You can't go wrong with the hundreds of avaliable flavors. nom. I worry about my love for sweets in the coming year, Freshmen 50 here I come!! Good thing I found a roommate that wants to work out. Anyway thats all I have to say, I need to go nom a cupcake...

2 more weeks

Only two more weeks of high school! This week I have all my classes but on Friday I get to miss the first half of my day to "study" for my AP in the afternoon, AP European History, yuck. Hopefully I'll have time to do something fun this weekend before diving into my last week. I'll have an AP test the second to last day of school and then the last day is basically just a blow off. Seniors party it up and have the last rally day, which should be really fun. With everything ending I'm getting a little sad. I won't ever see some of these people again, and will only get to see the ones I am closest with a couple times a year. It's scary to go off to college, especailly when it's so far away(going from texas to boston). But it's also really exciting. I just found my roommate and I think we'll have a lot of fun together. This is all SO EXCITING!!

CSS Thoughts

In website design we are now working in CSS. I really like that you can see the page I edit instead of just the HTML code, but the CSS is a bit confusing and a tad stressful. Nothing works the same way as HTML and since I'm used to that I find the CSS challenging, but this is mostly just because it's new. I'm sure that once I have completed my webpage for the Environmental Club that I will understand CSS and will be able to work it easily. By that point I'm sure I'll enjoy it more than HTML. Maybe I'll have a post later about how much I love CSS, we shall see.

New Project!

So in website design we are making webpages for a client. I am working with the environmental club to create a page about our Earth Day festivities. This year the festival(for lack of a better word) will probably include music, food, shirt swap, chalk and FUN! It should be pretty inperesting, and I will be capturing it all on camera so that I can put up pictures on the website I create. I hope to incorporate all of my new website design skills into this new page. I'm super excited!!

This week for my website design class we have been asked to write an essay about a movie we watched, Pirates of Silicon Valley. The question and my essay are below.

Money aside, which of these individuals would you prefer to work with or for? Why?

Some of the greatest technology ever created, the computer. The invention of the personal computer is particularly interesting and is outlined in the movie, Pirates of Silicon Valley. The film switches back and forth between the lives of Bill Gates and Steve Jobs as they work to create the world’s first personal computers, and how they are connected in following the same dream. While the story unfolds we see how both of these men treat their employees and how they act as employers.

In the movie Bill Gates makes me laugh. He is so nerdy and socially awkward. I like him because of this, he seems so awkward that I don’t feel threatened by him or anything, he just seems adorable. The thing is he is so driven and working so hard to get what he wants that he does some things I don’t like. He yells and steals. I personally work best with encouragement, not yelling, so working for Bill Gates wouldn’t work well for me. He also steals information from Steve Jobs, and essentially steals from the guy who he buys the monitor from. While I don’t like either of these things I appreciate that while he is working toward his goal he doesn’t leave his friends behind. He isn’t a one man show working for solely his own benefit.

On the other hand there is Steve Jobs. He is very different from Bill Gates, but at the same time, very similar. They are the same in that they both yell and steal. Steve Jobs took computer programming from Xerox, while the guys in charge of Xerox in New York allowed this it was still basically stealing the information. He also yells, a lot. He was a slave driver when it came to creating new Apple computers. His employees would be working 70 hour weeks and he would go around yelling at them in the middle of the night not being satisfied with their work. This is definitely not a work environment I could deal with. Yelling at me to work is one thing, but yelling at me to work in the middle of the night while I’m working and doing as much as I can is so not going to work. Besides these things which make Steve Jobs similar to Bill Gates there are also things that make them different. While Steve Jobs was working his way to the top he was only worried about himself. He left behind his best friend Steve Wozniak, his girlfriend and his daughter Lisa. This is not behavior I respect in a human being, much less an employer. On top of that he is rude and holds grudges. His grudge against IBM led him not to hire someone, just because he had previously worked there. This guy was qualified and hadn’t done anything wrong but Steve Jobs was disrespectful, I could never deal with this rudeness.

Honestly I wouldn’t want to work for either of these men. I know that I could never put up with working for Steve Jobs as he is portrayed in the movie, and so by process of elimination I would have to choose Bill Gates. For me Bill Gates is just the lesser of two “evils”.

The Donuts Were a BAD idea

Alright, so yesterday I was babysitting, two girls one 14 and one 12 with special needs. The 14 year old decides that she wants to make donuts. She has the "perfect" plan, go buy Pillsbury pizza dough and fry it. (Yuck!) I ask if this is something she has done before, yes yes of course she has. Now usually I don't automatically believe the kids I babysit, and don't go along with whatever silly project/activity they want to do, but yesterday was different. The combination of the fact that I was sooo tired and too lazy to come up with another idea, the fact that she really is trustworthy, and the fact that she is pretty independent and really doesn't even need a babysitter made me decide to go along with her little plan. So we headed off to the grocery store and got us some pizza dough. We got back to the house and heated up some oil. Once it was hot we started putting balls of the dough in. It wasn't really working, the outside would burn but the inside would still not be cooked. I asked again if she had really done this before. She said yes, but fessed up that it didn't work last time either. GREAT, gross donuts and a mess to clean up, freaking fantastic. If that wasn't bad enough the oil started smoking. Immediately I turn off that stove and we turn on the fan. This wasn't helping. The house was filling with smoke, so I take the pot outside and set it in the dirt. The oil was still smoking. By this time we have all the doors and windows open and I'm getting a little frazzled. The babysitter that was supposed to stay with the girls over night was on her way, what would she think of me with this crazy disaster going on. I decide that the smoking oil needs to stop. So I grab a hose, stand far away and spray the pot down, I'm sure you know what happens next, EXPLOSION!!! I must say it was pretty awesome, and it's a good thing I knew to stand back. Anyway a couple minutes later the other babysitter shows up to the smoke filled house. Turns out she is cool and totally understands this cooking disaster. I left a voicemail on the mom's phone, she hasn't called me back. I know I'll be hired again because the mom and I are good family friends and she is very chill, I'm just looking for that reassuring, "Blair it's no big deal" call. Anyway the moral of the story is that you should stick to buying donuts instead of stupidly letting the child you're babysitting convince you it's cool to make them yourself.

Mini Rant

Alright folks (such an odd word) it is time for a mini rant session. I have recently found a new pet peeve. People trying to look like something they're not. For example there is no reason to dress in all black and grey with tons of dark eye liner if you are a happy bubbly person whose secret favorite color is hot pink. Along the same lines don't wear super conservative outfits when we all know you are dying to wear some hard core rock attire. Or if you are basically the definition of the perfect prep school girl, then why do you feel the need to be the bad girl pierced and tattooed all over? Or the goody two shoes that wears "dresses" that are the length of a shirt. Honestly I can't stand the slutty clothing to begin with, if we can see "you" when we're behind you walking up stairs then it's too short, i don't need to see that. So while I don't like these types of outfits to begin with, it bothers me much more when they are the exact opposite of who you are. a good girl doing it just gives off the wrong impression. Now I know that even I every once in a while want to dress like "something I'm not" sometimes I want to rock the dark eye liner etc. even wear something a bit more sexy, but I wouldn't do it all the time because that is not who I am and I wouldn't want people thinking that that is who I am and give them the wrong idea. Anyway that's my rant session, anyone agree with me? disagree?

Tables

So this week in website design has been all about tables. Personally I think that they are a pain in the butt to make, but they are really great for organizing your webpages. I know what you're thinking, having a table suround everything on your webpage would look silly, but luckily it doesn't have to be that way. Its also really fun because you can make different cells different background colors so your webpage can have lots of different background colors. So while it takes a lot of time and effort to organize table stuff in HTML code it really is helpful in viewing your webpages and for others, cause who doens't like a clean and organized webpage?!

I Love Disney

Alright, I know what you might be thinking, this 18 year old wears childrens bows AND is obsessed with Disney, that is just too much. Seriously though, Disney animated movies rock, especially the soundtracks. Just YouTube disney movies and all of the clips of songs will come up, after veiwing a couple I am certain you'll be obsessed too. Especially if you were a big Disney fav as a wee-one then you are sure to find that you remember most of the words and you will be inclined to sing along. This morning I sang to at least 5 songs, out loud, in my school's hallway...and sure enough people gathered around and began to sing along! So here are my list of favorites that I think you def need to check out:

I'll Make a Man Out of You - Mulan

Colors of the Wind - Pocahontas

Savages - Pocahontas

Steady as a Beating Drum - Pocahontas

Just Around the River Bend - Pocahontas

I Just Can't wait to Be King - The Lion King

The Bare Necesities - The Jungle Book

Under the Sea - The Little Mermaid

Part of Your Wolrd - The Little Mermaid

I Won't Say I'm in Love - Hercules

The Gospel Truth - Hercules

Zero to Hero - Hercules

I could go on and on....but I'm sure you're capable of finding more yourself. Disney is addicting, and that's my random revelation.

Cursors

Alright, so you may have noticed my awesome new cursor, a red bow instead of a boring arrow. So as not to be rude/commit a crime I'd like to give http://www.cursors-4u.com/ credit for that awesome cursor!! =)

COLORS

I have a new appreciation for people that create websites, it takes a lot of work! I never knew that there was so much text needed just to make each letter in a given word a different color.
<Font size = "8" color = "f725cd"> C </font>
<Font size = "8" color = "ffa210" > O </font>
<Font size = "8" color = "fffc10"> L </font>
<Font size = "8" color = "4eff10"> O </font>
<Font size = "8" color = "5ff0fd"> R </font>
All of that text, and it only spells out COLOR. But it is totally worth it, think of how lame and boring a website would be without color. BLAH BLAH BLAH(i heart ke$ha)websites would put you strait to sleep if it weren't for color. Also who knew that the primary colors we were taught in kindergarden were not the primary colors that are used to make a webpage. We learn that primary colors are red, yellow, and blue, but when it comes to screens displaying color the primary colors are red, green and blue. Supah interesting.

Rainbows

In website design we are working on colors. As a result I had a dream about rainbows last night. I drempt that I discovered a new kind of kind of rainbow. It wasn't an arc or a half arc, it was just a strait line across the entire sky. It was BEAUTIFUL! Anyway, have you ever just stopped to admire a rainbow? They are sooo cool! I wish that you could touch them, or that the ledgends about the pot of gold at the end were true, but they are still nice. Always there to brighten a dark day.

My Birthday!

So yesterday I turned 18. Wow, i feel sooo old, not. Anyway I just figured I write out all of the awesome stuff I can do today that I couldn't have done 2 days ago:
1. call all the toll free numbers
2. order things from the tv
3. buy lottery tickets
4. buy porn
5. buy cigarettes
6. get into clubs
7. lease something
8. test-drive cars
9. buy a house
10. go to real jail
11. get a normal license
12. get a job anywhere
13. gamble (at select locations)
14. go to strip clubs
15. join the army
16. get piercings without parental consent
17. get a tattoo
18. drink in many foreign countries
19. and of course, VOTE!

I wish I could think of one more thing to make it 20....but anyway, super fun. Even though I don't plan on doing most of the above(except go to real jail, that's a life goal *insert sarcasm here) it is nice to know that I can do all of this. Yippee freedom

Sring Break STRESS

So my group of friends and I are going on a cruise to the Bahamas for spring break, I AM SO EXCITED! One expects spring break to be chill and fun and stress free. So far this is not the case. First we had the drama of figuring out where to go. There were long dicusssions and voting. Finally we came to the decision of going to a cruise. This is what I voted for so I was excited. Now we are going through the drama and stress of picking our activities for when we get off the boat. As one of the more organized people in our group I asked people to make a list of their top three activites for each of the three stops so that we could discuss who would do what together. Of course only half the people made their lists, ahhhhh!!!! As a control freak and an organization freak it stresses me out when people don't follow specific instructions. Now we just have people posting their lists to facebook, but I'm still a tad annoyed. Anyway, it shouldn't be this painfully stressful to plan fun. That's all for this post....but I think I'll post again soon...

IMAGES

Another assignment for website design! We have now learned the next step in creating awesome website, adding photos! Supah fun. So now my websites don't look quite as ametureish and look a tad better than the websites you find via google that just look so boring that you immediately click back before it bores you to death.(Fun Fact: a new research study has found that you can be bored to death, unfortunately I have no idea how they tested this...)Anyway in learning how to upload pictures we have also learned how to create pictures, and know I don't mean how to press the button on a camera, I mean through Adobe Fireworks. Officially my favorite Adobe program! It is sooo cool, I was able to create my own logo, it's pretty sweet(not the logo, the program haha. You can check out my a little less lame website at:

Why do they complain?

So all of my guy friends always complain about how hard it is to think of cute ideas on how to ask girls to dances. I personally think it's fun, and fairly easy. There are so many options, so I don't think it is that hard to come up with an idea. You can go the classic simple route..pass a note to them in class, have a friend deliver a note or just tape a peice of candy and a card to their locker. Then you can go a little above that, make a poster with pictures of them, a poster with candy bars spelling out words, or christmas lights poked into posterboard to form letters, and scavenger hunts. Then there are the over the top ways, they dont necessarily have to take more time than the rest they are just more...public. The cups pushed into the wire fence, the huge sign on the school building or the asking in front of everyone in a school assembly. Any way you do it I don't where it become soooo dificult to come up with an idea, it just seems silly. This post is inspired by the fact that this week most of the girls are asking for Sadies. I made a poster, that included a bit of an inside joke(inside jokes are really good too!) a friend of mine put a starbucks coffee cup on a guys desk with her number, and he had to text yes or no. Another girl found a picture of her and the boy she asked from 1st grade of the two of them, which was super cute. Anyway come on guys step it up, be a man and stop complaining! Oh and do ask, don't be lame and go stag, that's only cool if you're a girl. jk lol

SNOW IN TEXAS!

Do I live in Texas, yes. Is it snowing YES! It is so crazy right now, so far we have had an inch every hour since 3am. Unfortunately my school has decided that we still need to be in school? Not sure what their thinking but whatever so far the day has consisted of every class being let out to play in this winter wonderland. i am still so amazed. To all of you people up north where it snows like crazy, I know you're laughing but I don't care, this is Texas, we don't see snow all the time, so I'm excited! I have never lived where it snows in the winter, this is a real treat. The flakes are huge, and I just help out a group of people create an 8ft snowman. EPIC. Check out the picture! Now I'm off to play in the snow.

P.S.Holding snow makes your hands cold, random revelation of the day.

Also check out my friend's blog PB&J , she also wrote about the crazy Texas weather.

As they say, "If you don't like the weather in Texas, wait five minutes."

Technology and School

So my Website design teacher has told us to write about how we use technology, specifically our phones to do things for school. Well, I am not that cool kid who has an iphone and I don't have internet on my phone, but that doesn't mean I don't use my phone for school. I am able to send pictures for projects etc. to my email via a text message. (Something I just found out was possible today, yippee!) I also get text updates from my class head, about meetings and whatnot. Anyway its super cool to use technology for school!(rhyme)

Tuesday, February 9, 2010

Hello world, so my next assignment is to create my own logo for my new website. It is so hard to think of what to do that follows the quidelines of a good and memorable logo. You want to make it pop, make people notice it, but not necessarily with color. The logo should be awesome enough that it looks cool even in black and white. The bigger issue though is just figuring out what type of logo image would represent me, what says, Blair. Of course I thought about a big red bow, but that's just a bit much. In order to figure out what my logo should be I did a little research for logos of other things that I like, here are my top five, (keep in mind I only looked for about 10 minutes and I'm sure with more time I could find even better ones.

World wildlife foundation (panda)- cute, works in color and in black and white
NBC (1/2 wheel of color)- bright colors, simple
Hooters(owl)- creative, eyes are in the letters of the name
Pampers(heart)- simple
Iams(paw print)- easy design, recognizable that its for animals, works in all colors

Anyway, I have a new found respect for people who design fantastic logos that everyone can identify. Random revelation of 2/9/2010.

How are you feeling?

The original purpose of this plog was for my Website design class, and so now I must bore you all with how I'm feeling about HTML code. I feel like it can be a bit confusing to see a full page of

Structure of an HTML page

<html>

     <head>

     <title>
</title>

       <body>

     all page content goes here

       </body>

</html>

blah blah blah. but the reality is that it is really cool!! Who knew that a list of symbols would create a space on a webpage, or that a slash symbolizes the end. Anyway it seems very boring, but it is awesome to know codes etc. on how to create a webpage. HTML is fairly boring to learn, but awesome in practice, end of story.

5th graders

5th graders are SO funny! Picture this, a group of children working on projects in the library. Then one looks up and whispers, "Hey, so do you all know what rainbow really means?" Chairs quickly scoot closer. Then the one who knows the super secret meaning of rainbow, utters, "gay". Mouths drop, and there is a flurry of, "NO!"'s "it must not be true''s and utter silence. Children are so amusing, and that is my random revelation for the day.

Random "words" for the week

First I would just like to establish my love of the "word" er. I feel like it truly adds to texts and conversation. It just adds some flair [rhymes with Blair :)] and another level of understanding. Then today I learned a new word which I have decided will be my word of the week. GOBSMACKED. I would love to know what people think this means, so post away, but incase you plan on using it it means flabbergasted, astonished or surprised. What a great word! Anyway those are my new words, enjoy!

First Post!

I'm not really sure how to begin. How does one come up with some not so random entertaining post? I think it's impossible, so I'll go the random route. Have you ever noticed how some people have terrible manners while they eat? I'm not saying that I am perfect, I have been known to try and talk and eat at the same time, which I realize is nasty, but some people don't even know to chew with their mouths closed. Chomp chomp, munch munch, smack smack, it's icky! CHEW WITH YOUR MOUTH CLOSED! We all just continue to stuff our faces and don't take time to breathe! Sometimes at the dinner table I feel like my sister holds her breath, taking more bites before swallowing the first one. While some people's eating habits are just gross, it can be entertaining to watch people eat. it can be tough to watch people without them noticing, which just creates a fun challenge. Some people take baby bites spending hours contemplating each bite, while others devour whole sandwiches in a matter of 3 bites. The moaners are the best, those who find each bite to be a fantastic moment that needs to be recognized with closed eyes and a quite moan of yum. The bottom line is, it can be fun to watch people eat, my random revelation for the day.
